Lucas Jedrzejak

Lucas Jedrzejak is a multi award-winning documentary film-maker and a lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University.

Lucas is passionate about raising awareness for human stories concerning justice and human rights. With this aim, his film directorial work has taken him around the world, from China to the Arctic Circle. Lucas’ 2016 film Ketermaya told the stories of Syrian refugees in a makeshift camp in Lebanon, through the eyes of the children. It won best documentary awards at festivals in Italy, Greece and the US. 

An engaging teacher who readily shares his expertise on how to create powerful storytelling through film, Lucas has taught film and media production at Sheffield Hallam University since 2017, during which time he has three times been nominated for their Most Inspiring Lecturer award.

Lucas is a frequent panellist in London, around the UK and abroad, and is a member of the jury at the International Children’s Rights Film Festival.

In 2008 he founded a video production company, Bison Grass Films Ltd in Sheffield which produced over 12 films, including a documentary about a British boxing champion Ricky Hatton, travelling between Manchester and Las Vegas and several programmes for the BBC, C4 and Arte.

In 2010, Lucas’s film In Expectation of the Thaw premiered at the Royal Albert Hall in London, in the presence of the then HRH Prince Charles.

Previously, he received a Sony award for best entertainment package from Granada Television.

Lucas holds a Masters, with Distinction, in Film-Making from Sheffield Hallam University and works towards his PHD research..
